
How to improve FPS in Resident Evil Requiem (PC)
Resident Evil Requiem is Capcom's new mainline entry built on RE Engine, the same engine behind the RE2, RE3, and RE4 remakes and Village. It keeps the formula that has made RE Engine famous on PC: great graphical fidelity with surprisingly contained resource use, prioritizing skin shaders and photorealistic lighting over raw polygon count. Being a more ambitious entry, it adds more aggressive ray tracing options and less linear scenarios than its predecessors, which raises the demand on the GPU. The good news is that, as with the rest of the series, the engine remains relatively CPU-light, so almost all the room for improvement is in the graphics settings. This guide covers the settings that most impact performance without sacrificing the horror atmosphere that defines the game.

Ray Tracing Reflections
Ray-traced reflections on wet floors and metallic surfaces are Requiem's visual trademark, but they're also the game's biggest frame eater. Disabling them replaces the reflections with RE Engine's traditional rasterized solution.
Volumetric Fog
Volumetric fog cutting through light shafts in basements and forests is pure RE Engine, but on Ultra it multiplies the cost of every dynamic light source. Dropping it to Medium preserves the oppressive atmosphere.
Shadow Quality
Dynamic shadows for characters and objects use high-resolution shadow maps on Ultra, a setting that especially penalizes mid-range GPUs. High keeps sharp contours in cutscenes.
Ambient Occlusion
Ambient occlusion reinforces contact between objects and walls in the game's gothic interiors. The Ultra version uses a wider sampling radius that's barely noticeable except in zoomed-in screenshots.
Motion Blur
Motion blur doesn't free up many frames on its own, but it reduces post-processing load and improves perceived sharpness during fast camera turns.

Here's where most of the FPS is. Minor visual impact, major performance impact.
Texture Quality
RE Engine manages textures via VRAM streaming. High keeps skin and material detail without risking Ultra's streaming stutters on cards with 8GB or less.
Mesh Quality
Controls the geometric detail level of characters and environments, especially relevant in this entry's more open areas compared to previous remakes' corridor design.
Anti-Aliasing (TAA/DLAA)
DLAA offers the best image sharpness on RTX cards but has a higher performance cost than RE Engine's standard TAA.
Global Illumination
Global illumination controls how light bounces between surfaces, a key element in Requiem's dark atmosphere. On Ultra it enables extra ray bounces that are costly.

The biggest gain in the game. Compatible with almost any modern GPU.
