What are cookies?

Cookies we use
Currently, checkfps.io uses the following cookies: (1) cookie-consent — First-party, technical cookie, duration 1 year; stores consent preference. (2) NEXT_LOCALE — First-party, technical cookie, duration 1 year; stores language preference. (3) _ga — Third-party (Google Analytics), analytical cookie, duration 2 years; identifies unique users. (4) _gid — Third-party (Google Analytics), analytical cookie, duration 24 hours; distinguishes users in a session. (5) Google AdSense advertising cookies and those of its partners (such as __gads, __gpi, and IDE from doubleclick.net) — Third-party, with durations ranging from the session to several months; used to display ads, cap their frequency, measure their performance and, when the user consents, personalize them. Google Analytics analytical cookies (3 and 4) are only set if the user accepts via the banner. Google AdSense advertising cookies (5) are managed through Google's consent tool (Funding Choices): users who do not consent to personalization are shown non-personalized ads, which may still use cookies for measurement and fraud-prevention purposes. The user can review their preferences in Google's ad settings.
Types of cookies
Cookies are classified according to various criteria. By origin, they may be first-party (set by the website's own domain) or third-party (set by a different domain). By purpose, they may be technical (necessary for the site to function), analytical (used to measure and analyse user navigation), or advertising (used to manage ads displayed on the site). By duration, they may be session cookies (deleted when the browser is closed) or persistent cookies (remain for a specified period). Currently, checkfps.io uses technical first-party cookies, analytical third-party cookies from Google Analytics, and advertising third-party cookies from Google AdSense, the latter two in accordance with the user's consent preferences.

Consent
When visiting checkfps.io for the first time, an informational banner is displayed allowing the user to accept or reject non-essential cookies. If the user accepts, Google Analytics and Google AdSense advertising cookies are activated; if they reject, only strictly necessary technical cookies are used and, where applicable, non-personalized ads are shown. The site implements Google Consent Mode v2, so Google Analytics does not collect identifying data until consent is granted. Users can change their decision at any time by clearing cookies from their browser settings, which will display the banner again on the next visit. The legal basis for technical cookies is legitimate interest; for analytical and advertising cookies, the user's prior consent.
Affiliate links
The checkfps.io site includes affiliate links to third-party stores, mainly Amazon and Eneba (a digital game-key store). When the user clicks one of these links, they are redirected to the seller's website (for example, Amazon or Eneba), which may set its own cookies in the user's browser according to its own cookie and privacy policy, over which CheckFPS has no control. These cookies allow the seller to attribute any purchase to the site that originated the visit. CheckFPS does not set its own affiliate cookies: the affiliate identifier travels only as a parameter in the link. To manage these third-party cookies, the user should consult the corresponding seller's policy.
