How to improve FPS in Last Epoch (PC)
Last Epoch is Eleventh Hour Games' ARPG that has gained ground against giants like Diablo and Path of Exile thanks to its deep crafting system and narrative time-travel setup. It runs on Unity and, during the campaign, is a relatively light game that any modern rig pushes past 200 FPS without effort. The real optimization challenge comes in the endgame: the Monolith of Fate and, especially, the Arena mode, where dozens of skill effects, minion summons, and damage-over-time auras stack on screen at the same time.

Calculations based on our FPS model combined with the % gain of each setting (measured in public benchmarks).
1. Quick wins (no visual loss)
Start here. Each one adds a little, but together they give +61% free FPS.
Particle Effects
This is the single most decisive setting in Last Epoch. In a Monolith echo with two or three minion or DoT builds active, the number of simultaneous particles can saturate the CPU before the GPU.
Shadow Quality
Dynamic shadows in scenes with many enemies and projectiles add rendering cost that's barely noticeable from a distant isometric view.
Anti-Aliasing
Unity's heavier AA options hurt performance at high resolutions without adding much in an isometric camera.
V-Sync
V-Sync introduces noticeable input lag in an ARPG that depends on quick reactions to enemy waves.
Damage Numbers / Combat Text
In fights with multiple summons and DoTs, floating damage text multiplies exponentially and adds non-trivial UI overhead.
2. Medium impact settings
Here's where most of the FPS is. Minor visual impact, major performance impact.
Texture Quality
Last Epoch's textures aren't especially demanding, but on cards with little VRAM, dropping from Ultra to Medium frees up memory and avoids micro-stutters.
Environment Detail
Controls the density of vegetation, debris, and decorative elements in the environment.
Post Processing
Effects like bloom, motion blur, and vignetting build up visually with ability explosions and auras.
Resolution Scale
Rendering at 90% of native resolution and letting Unity handle the scaling saves GPU load during moments of extreme saturation.
3. Upscaling (DLSS / FSR / XeSS)
The biggest gain in the game. Compatible with almost any modern GPU.
4. Tips by GPU
NVIDIA
- •Enable Ultra Low Latency Mode from the NVIDIA control panel to reduce input lag in dense Arena combat.
- •Update to the latest Game Ready drivers, since Unity gets frequent compatibility improvements.
- •If you're using a GPU with little VRAM, disable Image Sharpening in the NVIDIA panel to save a small performance margin.
AMD
- •Enable Radeon Anti-Lag to offset the input lag generated by CPU spikes in fights with many simultaneous minions and DoTs.
- •Keep Adrenalin drivers updated, especially after major Last Epoch patches.
- •Disable Radeon Chill if you notice strange FPS fluctuations during combat.
Sistema
- •Close third-party overlays during long Monolith sessions, since the game is sensitive to background CPU load.
- •Install the game on an SSD to reduce load times between echoes and avoid mistimed asset streaming.
- •On processors with more than 6 cores, check in Task Manager that the game isn't limited to just a few threads.
5. Known game issues
FPS drops in the Arena with multiple summoner builds
When several players use minion builds in multiplayer mode within the Arena, the number of active entities can push the framerate well below the campaign's typical 200+ FPS.
Micro-stuttering when generating new Monolith echoes
Some players report small hitches when entering a new echo while the game loads geometry and enemies in the background.
CPU spikes with stacked damage over time
Builds focused on poison, bleed, or ignite effects applied to large groups of enemies generate a number of per-tick damage calculations that can saturate a CPU core.
