
How to improve FPS in Battlefield V (PC)
Battlefield V brings DICE's 64-player chaos to World War II, with tanks, planes, and infantry sharing the same destructible map in real time. The Frostbite engine demands a lot from both the CPU (physics simulation and player count) and the GPU (effects, destruction, and, if enabled, ray tracing). In 2018 it was the first major shooter to offer real-time ray-traced reflections on RTX 20-series cards, groundbreaking but costly. It also debuted DLSS 1.0, now remembered as a limited implementation that's noticeably less sharp than today's standards. With the right graphics settings, it's perfectly possible to get smooth matches even on modest hardware.

1. Quick wins (no visual loss)
Start here. Each one adds a little, but together they give +47% free FPS.
Ray Tracing Quality
Ray-traced reflections were BFV's big marketing feature back in 2018, but their frame cost is still high even on modern RTX GPUs. Disabling them frees up a huge amount of performance without changing gameplay.
Motion Blur
Motion blur barely helps performance but makes it harder to track fast-moving targets, something critical in close-range combat.
Post-Process Quality
Controls effects like bloom, depth of field, and damage vignettes. Dropping it from Ultra to Medium reduces shader load with minimal visual impact.
Undergrowth Quality
Frostbite's undergrowth and low vegetation render at high density to hide prone snipers, but that comes at a notable geometry cost. Dropping it to Low improves performance and makes it easier to spot camouflaged enemies.
Anti-Aliasing (TAA)
Frostbite's TAA smooths edges but adds a slight overall blur and rendering cost. Dropping it to Low keeps a reasonably clean image while recovering frames.
2. Medium impact settings
Here's where most of the FPS is. Minor visual impact, major performance impact.
Mesh Quality
Defines the level of detail on 3D models of soldiers, vehicles, and destruction debris. Dropping it from Ultra to Medium noticeably reduces geometry load.
Lighting Quality
Frostbite's dynamic lighting, with smoke, fire, and explosions lighting the scene in real time, is one of the engine's biggest performance drains.
Effects Quality
Controls explosion particles, smoke, destruction dust, and gunfire, elements that spike in number during tank and artillery assaults.
Texture Quality
With enough VRAM (6GB or more), keeping textures on High barely affects the framerate and preserves the detail on uniforms and vehicles.
Terrain Quality
Affects the level of detail of terrain and its textures at a distance. Dropping it to Medium reduces load in open maps without noticeably affecting front-line combat.
3. Upscaling (DLSS / FSR / XeSS)
The biggest gain in the game. Compatible with almost any modern GPU.
NVIDIA DLSS 1.0
+20% FPSBattlefield V was one of the first games to integrate DLSS, but this early version built the image from a per-scene trained network, producing a result noticeably blurrier than modern DLSS. It offers a real gain, but many players prefer native resolution if the GPU allows.
RTX Reflections (Ray Tracing)
+-25% FPSThis isn't an upscaling technique but ray tracing: it adds realistic reflections on water, glass, and metallic surfaces using the RT cores in RTX GPUs. Its performance cost remains high.
4. Tips by GPU
NVIDIA
- •On RTX GPUs, try DLSS 1.0 knowing it will sacrifice sharpness; many users get a better image by manually lowering render resolution with Ray Tracing turned off.
- •Enable Reflex if your driver version supports it via the control panel to reduce latency in close-range infantry firefights.
- •Keep Game Ready drivers updated; Frostbite received several performance patches specifically to expand compatibility with newer RTX series.
AMD
- •Since the game doesn't include FSR, the main way to gain performance on AMD GPUs is lowering Effects Quality and Lighting Quality, the engine's most expensive settings.
- •On Radeon cards, Ray Tracing Quality isn't available in hardware on most generations before RDNA 2.
- •Check that Radeon Chill or Radeon Boost are disabled if you want a consistent framerate during massive artillery engagements.

- •With 64 players, vehicles, and destruction happening at once, the CPU takes noticeable hits; close background processes and prioritize a processor with good per-core performance.
- •Install the game on an SSD: large maps with texture streaming and real-time destruction benefit greatly from low disk response times.
- •Adjust your pagefile and close overlays if you notice stuttering, since Frostbite is sensitive to system interruptions during big battles.

On systems with less than 6GB of VRAM or with the game installed on an HDD, it's common to notice microstutters when quickly panning the camera in open maps.
