NBA 2K27 is Visual Concepts and 2K's latest annual entry in the basketball series, and on PC it arrives already with the "next-gen" version that, since 2K25, has kept near-total parity with current console versions in terms of models, lighting, and game modes. The engine still leans on extensive motion capture for player animations, cloth physics for jerseys and nets, and dynamic arena lighting, but the big jump in demand compared to a simple match is in The City: the open-world social hub where dozens of real players, customizable cars, shops, and simultaneous minigames coexist. While a single match against the AI is relatively light, The City puts CPU and GPU under a very different load, closer to an open-world online game than a sports simulator.

Crowd Density
The arena crowd is simulated with individual animations and reactions to plays, and on Ultra the engine renders many more rows of spectators with their own movement than you'd actually notice during a live match. Lowering it to Medium reduces that load without leaving the stands visibly empty.
Crowd Cloth Simulation
Simulates the movement of flags, jerseys, and cloth elements among the crowd, an additional physics calculation that piles up frame by frame alongside the rest of The City's and the match's own simulations.
Shadow Quality
Dynamic shadows from players and the arena itself are constantly recalculated during plays, and on High/Ultra their cost rises noticeably, especially in replays with cinematic cameras.
Depth of Field
Depth-of-field blur in pre-match cutscenes and replays adds a post-processing cost without providing useful information during actual play, and in some cutscenes is precisely where stuttering is most noticeable.
Frame Rate Limit
NBA 2K27 has its own internal FPS limit that sometimes conflicts with VSync or the driver control panel's limit, causing micro-stutters or noticeable input lag on play controls. Setting a single limit consistent with your monitor's refresh rate avoids that double limiting.

Arena Detail
Controls the geometric and texture detail level of the arenas, including dynamic advertising and decorative elements that on Ultra add more polygons than you can distinguish from typical match cameras.
Floor Reflections
Reflections on the freshly waxed court have a noticeable GPU cost, especially in arenas with a lot of overhead lighting, and its highest level is rarely appreciated during real gameplay pace.
Player Detail
Affects skin, sweat, and facial texture detail on players in close-ups and replays; it consumes more VRAM than raw compute power, so High is usually enough on most modern GPUs.
Ambient Occlusion
Reinforces the visual contact between players, ball, and floor, but at its highest level it doubles its cost without a noticeable improvement at the speed of a live match.
Anti-Aliasing (TAA)
TAA smooths the edges of players and court lines, but at its highest level adds a sampling cost that competes with other effects, especially at high resolutions and in The City with a lot of on-screen geometry.
3. Upscaling (DLSS / FSR / XeSS)
The biggest gain in the game. Compatible with almost any modern GPU.
NVIDIA DLSS
+22% FPSNBA 2K27 includes DLSS support, especially useful at 1440p/4K and in The City, where it absorbs load spikes from the number of players and social elements rendered at once.
AMD FSR
+18% FPSFSR works on any GPU and is the recommended alternative for those without a recent NVIDIA card, with reasonable image quality in Quality mode for matches and in The City.
Intel XeSS
+0% FPSNBA 2K27 doesn't include XeSS among its scaling options. On Intel Arc GPUs or on systems without DLSS/FSR available, the real alternative is lowering the game's internal Render Scale or forcing driver-level scaling, which offers part of the performance savings without the same image quality.

NVIDIA
- •Use DLSS in Quality or Balanced mode at 1440p/4K if you notice FPS drops entering The City, before lowering more of the match's graphics settings.
- •Keep Game Ready drivers updated; 2K and NVIDIA usually release specific optimization profiles after each year's annual launch.
- •Enable Low Latency Mode from the NVIDIA control panel to reduce input lag on play controls, especially if you use a low FPS limit.
AMD
- •FSR in Quality mode is a good option if your CPU has headroom and you're after more FPS at high resolutions, since The City tends to be more CPU-bound than GPU-bound.
- •Enable Radeon Anti-Lag to offset latency in matches, especially if you play online with other real players.
- •Check that Smart Access Memory (Resizable BAR) is enabled in the BIOS to improve CPU-GPU bandwidth in The City's most crowded areas.

- •Install NBA 2K27 on an SSD; the game requires it given its 110+ GB install size and the loading and asset streaming times entering and leaving The City.
- •The City is the most CPU-dependent part of the whole game: if your processor is older, you'll notice FPS drops there that don't show up during a normal match against the AI, so prioritize a fast-per-core CPU over more cores.

In the areas with the highest concentration of players, vehicles, and social elements in The City, framerate can drop noticeably even on rigs that have plenty of headroom during a normal match, from the combination of rendering many customized avatars, network sync, and simultaneous physics simulation.
Hitches in cutscenes and match transitions
It's common to notice an occasional hitch entering or leaving pre-match cutscenes, replays, and loading screens between quarters, while the engine streams high-resolution models and mocap-captured animations.
Inconsistent performance with Dynamic Resolution and a badly configured FPS limit
When Dynamic Resolution is on together with VSync and the game's internal FPS limit at the same time, some players report framerate fluctuations and variable input lag, since the three limiting systems can conflict with each other.
