How to improve FPS in Among Us (PC)
Among Us is, graphically, one of the lightest games out there: 2D sprites, static backdrops, and a Unity engine with barely any effects to demand from a GPU. In practice, any PC from the last ten years runs it at hundreds of FPS with no effort, even with integrated graphics. So this guide isn't about "how to raise graphics" — there's barely anything to touch — but about why Among Us sometimes runs badly despite being so light. The cause is almost never your GPU or CPU: it's usually the connection to the server (official or the host's), third-party overlays interfering with the process, or massive matches on large maps like Airship with many players and visual mods active at once.
This is what you'd gain with a NVIDIA RTX 3050
Calculations based on our FPS model combined with the % gain of each setting (measured in public benchmarks).
1. Quick wins (no visual loss)
Start here. Each one adds a little, but together they give +13% free FPS.
Resolución de pantalla
Among Us doesn't have a complex resolution menu: use your monitor's native resolution in fullscreen mode. There's no real FPS gain because the game isn't rendering-bound, but borderless windowed mode can introduce micro-stutter if Windows prioritizes other processes.
V-Sync
Disabling V-Sync removes the artificial FPS cap and reduces input lag when pressing buttons or opening tasks, though the impact is minimal because the game already runs well above the refresh rate on most monitors.
Superposiciones de terceros
Overlays from Discord, GeForce Experience, Steam, or other recording apps can introduce micro-hitches and occasional stutter in Among Us, a lightweight Unity engine sensitive to external hooks into its rendering. Disabling unnecessary overlays usually eliminates these hitches.
Apps en segundo plano
Browsers with lots of tabs, launchers, or streaming software consume CPU and bandwidth that Among Us needs to keep the server connection synced. Closing them reduces the network hitches that get perceived as FPS drops.
Calidad gráfica
Among Us barely exposes advanced graphics options; the game doesn't have a traditional graphics quality menu. The only real setting available in some versions is brightness and interface size, with no measurable performance impact.
2. Medium impact settings
Here's where most of the FPS is. Minor visual impact, major performance impact.
Región de servidor
Doesn't affect local FPS, but it's the most important setting for perceived lag in Among Us: picking the closest official server to your location (or a well-connected host in private matches) drastically reduces network hitches and desyncs.
Partidas con mods de mapa grande
On Airship, the game's largest map, and especially in modded matches with many players and added effects, CPU usage rises slightly compared to other maps. On very modest systems the occasional drop can be noticeable, though it remains rare.
Actualizar drivers de gráficos
Keeping your GPU driver up to date doesn't change Among Us's performance itself, but it avoids overlay conflicts that can cause the occasional hitches mentioned in the overlay section.
Modo de energía del portátil
On laptops with power-saving mode enabled, Windows can throttle the CPU enough to introduce micro-hitches in network sync, even though rendering itself is never an issue.
3. Upscaling (DLSS / FSR / XeSS)
The biggest gain in the game. Compatible with almost any modern GPU.
4. Tips by GPU
NVIDIA
- •Any NVIDIA GPU from the last 10 years, including entry-level cards like the GT 1030, runs Among Us well above 100 FPS with no tweaks at all.
- •Disable the GeForce Experience/NVIDIA App overlay if you notice occasional micro-stutter; it adds nothing in this game and can interfere with the process.
- •There's no need to enable any specific performance profile in the NVIDIA Control Panel: the game doesn't demand enough load for it to make a difference.
AMD
- •Integrated Radeon iGPUs on AMD processors are more than enough for Among Us.
- •Disable Radeon Overlay (Alt+R) if you experience occasional stutter; it's usually the first thing to rule out on AMD systems.
- •There's no need to touch Radeon Chill or any FPS limiter: the game is already so light these features add nothing.
Sistema
- •Check your internet connection (ping and stability, not bandwidth) before touching anything graphical: it's the most common cause of a bad experience in Among Us.
- •Close the Discord overlay, screen recorders, and browsers with many open tabs before long or modded matches.
- •If you play private matches, check that whoever is hosting has a good connection: all of the match's lag depends on that one person.
5. Known game issues
Desync and rubber-banding in matches with many players or mods
In private matches with 10-15 players (Town of Us-type mods) or when the host has a poor connection, it's common to see characters teleport or freeze for an instant. It's not an FPS problem or a hardware issue: it's the host's network sync not keeping up. Changing hosts or reducing the player count usually fixes it.
Server outages and queues on official servers
During popularity spikes, InnerSloth's official servers have suffered saturation that's perceived as lag or disconnections, especially in the Europe/Asia region. It's a server-side problem, not configurable from the client.
Estado: Ongoing infrastructure improvements (server-side patches, no associated client version)
