1. Quick wins (no visual loss)

Ray Tracing (Reflections and Shadows)
RE Village's ray tracing affects reflections on wet surfaces (very present in the castle and sewers) and shadows from certain light sources. The visual impact is notable on puddles and metal armor, but the performance cost is high for what it adds outside of static screenshots.
Shadow Quality
RE Engine renders high-resolution dynamic shadows for torches, candles, and the player's flashlight, key elements in the horror atmosphere. Lowering from Max to Medium reduces shadow map resolution without introducing visible jagged edges on the castle floor.
Volumetric Fog
Volumetric fog is used a lot in outdoor areas like the village and around the lake with Moreau, plus humid interiors. On Medium it keeps atmospheric density while reducing per-pixel raymarching cost.

Mesh Quality
Controls the geometric detail level of objects and characters, very relevant in the castle's rooms packed with furniture and gothic ornamentation. High keeps foreground models sharp and only reduces the detail of distant background elements.

Here's where most of the FPS is. Minor visual impact, major performance impact.
Texture Resolution
Textures on Max demand a fair amount of VRAM, especially in the Dimitrescu castle with its high-resolution tapestries and stone surfaces. On GPUs with 6-8GB, lowering to High avoids microstutters from VRAM swapping without a very noticeable loss of sharpness on screen.
Screen Space Reflections
When ray tracing is disabled, reflections are calculated via SSR. Medium keeps coherent reflections on wet floors and glass without the full-resolution cost of Max.
Ambient Occlusion
HBAO+ adds more precise ambient occlusion in the castle's corners and nooks, but its cost isn't negligible on mid-range GPUs. SSAO Medium preserves the sense of depth in dark interiors at a lower cost.
Mesh Animation Quality
Affects the smoothness of animations for secondary characters and enemies on screen, something fairly minor given that RE Village's encounters tend to have few simultaneous enemies compared to a wave-based shooter.
Render Scale

+25% FPSA spatial (not temporal) upscaling implementation, available for any GPU regardless of manufacturer. It's noticeably inferior to DLSS in sharpness, with visible halos on the edges of thin objects; recommended only in Performance/Ultra Performance as a last resort.
NVIDIA DLSS 3 Frame Generation
+45% FPSAdded in a later update for RTX 40-series GPUs. It doubles perceived frame count, very effective for pushing the game to 120+ fps on high-refresh-rate monitors, though in a survival horror the added latency can be slightly noticeable in fast melee combat.
