1. Quick wins (no visual loss)

Start here. Each one adds a little, but together they give +8% free FPS.

Motion Blur

Recommended: Off · Visual impact: Imperceptible · Consensus: Everyone turns it off; no competitive player keeps it enabled.
+3% FPS

Motion blur adds nothing in such fast combat and actually makes it harder to read enemy attack animations. Disabling it improves visual clarity as well as freeing up a small performance margin.

Combat Motion Blur

Recommended: Off · Visual impact: Imperceptible · Consensus: Total consensus on disabling it for clarity — the FPS savings are secondary.
+2% FPS

A second independent slider Team Ninja added for the "speed ramp" effect on special combos. While it looks spectacular in a trailer, in practice it blurs the timing of quick-time events and combo cancels.

Film Grain

Recommended: Off · Visual impact: Imperceptible · Consensus: Recommended to disable unless you have a personal aesthetic preference.
+1% FPS

Film grain adds noise without useful information during combat and can accentuate compression artifacts in stream or recording clips. Its performance cost is minimal, but it's a free setting to turn off.

Chromatic Aberration

Recommended: Off · Visual impact: Imperceptible · Consensus: Almost unanimously recommended to disable within the community.

Chromatic aberration distorts the edges of the screen, exactly where off-camera attack indicators often appear. Disabling it costs almost no performance and improves peripheral perception.

Shadow Quality

Unreal Engine 5's dynamic shadows are among the heaviest load on the GPU, especially with multiple enemies and combo effects lighting the scene. Dropping from Ultra to Medium keeps silhouette readability without penalizing frame times as much.

Effects/Particle Quality

Recommended: Medium · Visual impact: Medium · Consensus: Highly recommended setting; on Ultra it causes noticeable drops during chained combos against multiple enemies.

Ryu and Yaiba's combos generate layers of particles and impact effects that pile up quickly in crowded fights. Reducing this setting is one of the best-returning FPS gains, and at Medium damage effects are still perfectly legible.

View Distance

Recommended: High · Visual impact: Low · Consensus: High is recommended except on very limited hardware, where Medium is acceptable.

Draw distance mainly affects open scenarios and the game's urban rooftops, with less impact on the closed combat arenas where the real action happens. High preserves the visual impact without Ultra's cost.

Anti-Aliasing (TSR)

Recommended: TSR · Visual impact: Low · Consensus: Recommended to keep enabled unless you prioritize maximum FPS over image sharpness.

TSR (Temporal Super Resolution) is Unreal Engine 5's native antialiasing and offers better image stability than disabling it entirely, at a moderate performance cost compared to lighter solutions. In fast movement like this game's, it reduces aliasing on weapon and effect edges.

Texture Quality

Recommended: High · Visual impact: Low · Consensus: Consensus on keeping it high whenever VRAM allows — the FPS impact is marginal.

AMD FSR 3

FSR 3 works on any modern GPU, not just AMD cards, and offers a solid performance boost with somewhat lower image quality than DLSS in scenes with lots of fine detail. Its Frame Generation shares the same added-latency risk as NVIDIA's, so apply the same caution in high-precision combat.

Intel XeSS

+35% FPS

XeSS is the least demanding of the three in image quality but is very useful on Intel Arc GPUs and as a universal alternative when DLSS or FSR don't give the expected result. It doesn't include its own frame generation in this title, so it doesn't introduce the same latency issue.

NVIDIA

  • •Check that Smart Access Memory is enabled on your motherboard if you have an AMD CPU and GPU, since it especially helps in scenes with many enemies on screen.

Enabling DLSS 3 or FSR 3 Frame Generation in fights with many enemies and particles can create a perceptible "input delay" feeling right at the moments when parry precision is needed most. Recommended to disable it if you notice you're missing blocking windows you used to connect.

FPS fluctuation with Effects Quality on Ultra

With effects quality maxed out, combos chaining several enemies with particle explosions can cause sharp frame-time drops on mid-range hardware. Dropping this setting to Medium usually stabilizes the experience without sacrificing combat readability.
