How to improve FPS in Delta Force (PC)

Delta Force has been revived as one of the most ambitious free-to-play military shooters around, combining the large-scale chaos of "Havoc Warfare" (64+ players, vehicles, helicopters, and destructible cover) with the more tactical tension of extraction mode and a campaign inspired by Black Hawk Down. Built on Unreal Engine 4 and designed to scale from mobile devices to high-end PCs with cross-play, the game is surprisingly flexible with graphics settings. Even so, combined-warfare matches demand a lot from the CPU due to the number of entities, vehicles, and simultaneous network calculations, while the detailed urban environments and sand and dust effects in the campaign load more of the GPU's work. This guide covers the settings that free up the most FPS without sacrificing visibility, something critical in a competitive shooter.

⚠️ Known for: 64+ player Havoc Warfare modes with vehicles and helicopters generate CPU load spikes that can tank FPS even on powerful rigs if the settings aren't tuned properly.

Calculations based on our FPS model combined with the % gain of each setting (measured in public benchmarks).

1. Quick wins (no visual loss)

Start here. Each one adds a little, but together they give +45% free FPS.

Effects Quality

Recommended: Low · Visual impact: Medium · Consensus: One of the settings with the best FPS-to-visual-impact ratio; almost all competitive players lower it.
+14% FPS

Explosions, smoke, and gunfire particles in Havoc Warfare generate massive rendering load when several vehicles and players are on screen at once.

Shadow Quality

Recommended: Low · Visual impact: Low · Consensus: Widely recommended; the visual impact is minimal compared to the performance gain.
+10% FPS

Dynamic shadows for vehicles, helicopters, and destructible structures are one of the biggest GPU consumers in Delta Force's engine.

Foliage Quality

Recommended: Low · Visual impact: Medium · Consensus: Preferred by competitive players precisely for the visibility advantage, not just the FPS.
+8% FPS

Dense vegetation on some extraction maps hides crouched or prone players among the bushes. Lowering this setting improves both performance and visibility of camouflaged enemies.

View Distance

Recommended: Medium · Visual impact: Low · Consensus: Recommended not to lower it all the way in large-scale war modes, since it helps spot enemy vehicles.
+7% FPS

Draw distance in Havoc Warfare's open maps directly affects how many distant objects and vehicles the engine processes.

Post Processing

Recommended: Low · Visual impact: Low · Consensus: Nearly unanimous among the competitive community: it's always lowered, adding extra visual clarity.
+6% FPS

Motion blur, bloom, and other post-processing effects add a layer of rendering cost that adds nothing in competitive combat.

2. Medium impact settings

Here's where most of the FPS is. Minor visual impact, major performance impact.

Texture Quality

Recommended: Medium · Visual impact: Medium · Consensus: Heavily dependent on available VRAM; recommended to lower on entry-level GPUs.
+5% FPS

High-resolution textures affect VRAM more than raw FPS, so on GPUs with little memory, lowering this setting prevents hitching.

Anti-Aliasing

Recommended: Medium · Visual impact: Medium · Consensus: Recommended to keep it at least at a medium level to avoid losing definition while aiming down sights.
+6% FPS

Edge smoothing in Unreal Engine 4 has a variable cost depending on the method used. A medium level removes the most annoying jaggies without the cost of the more aggressive options.

Global Illumination

Recommended: Low · Visual impact: High · Consensus: Recommended on mid-range systems; on high-end rigs many keep it for the visual impact in the campaign.
+9% FPS

Dynamic global illumination, especially indoors and in the urban areas of the Black Hawk Down campaign, is one of the heaviest calculations in the whole engine.

Resolution Scale

Recommended: 90 · Visual impact: Medium · Consensus: A widely used alternative to AI upscaling on systems that prefer to avoid upscaling ghosting.
+12% FPS

Slightly reducing the internal render scale before rendering is one of the most effective ways to recover FPS in Havoc Warfare's massive battles.

3. Upscaling (DLSS / FSR / XeSS)

The biggest gain in the game. Compatible with almost any modern GPU.

NVIDIA DLSS

+35% FPS

Available on RTX GPUs, it offers the game's best sharpness-to-performance ratio thanks to DLSS 2 and 3 support (with frame generation on RTX 40 cards).

AMD FSR

+28% FPS

FSR 2/3 works on any GPU, including NVIDIA and Intel, making it the most universal option.

Intel XeSS

+25% FPS

Originally designed for Intel's Arc GPUs, but also works on NVIDIA and AMD via its shader-based cross-platform mode.

4. Tips by GPU

NVIDIA

  • •Enable DLSS in Quality or Balanced mode to gain FPS headroom in Havoc Warfare without losing sharpness on your sights.
  • •Update to the latest Game Ready drivers, since TiMi releases frequent patches that often require new optimized profiles.
  • •If you have an RTX 40, enable Frame Generation only in the campaign; in PvP it can introduce undesirable perceptible latency.

AMD

  • •Use FSR in Quality mode as a reliable alternative if you don't have an RTX GPU.
  • •Enable Radeon Anti-Lag to reduce input latency in the fast firefights of extraction mode.
  • •Check that Radeon Chill is disabled, since it can cap FPS below expected levels in menus and loading screens.

Sistema

  • •Close background processes before entering Havoc Warfare matches, where the CPU is already under heavy load.
  • •Install the game on an SSD to reduce texture loading times when streaming assets on large maps.
  • •Enable high-performance mode in Windows and disable GPU power saving.

5. Known game issues

Micro-hitches when deploying vehicles in Havoc Warfare

When several players deploy vehicles or helicopters almost simultaneously, the engine suffers CPU load spikes that cause brief microcuts.

FPS drop when entering dense urban areas in the campaign

Scenarios inspired by Black Hawk Down with many buildings and NPCs cause a notable performance drop on mid-range GPUs if global illumination is set to Ultra.

Shader-compilation stuttering after updates

After each TiMi patch, the first launch usually shows hitching while shaders are recompiled in the background.

Estado: Shader precompilation patch (periodic maintenance update)

6. Frequently asked questions

Which settings should I lower first to gain FPS in Delta Force?▾
Start with Effects Quality, Shadow Quality, and Foliage Quality on Low. These free up the most performance with the least visual impact.
Is it worth enabling DLSS or FSR in Delta Force?▾
Yes, especially in Havoc Warfare, where CPU and GPU load spikes with 64+ players and vehicles.
Why do my FPS only drop in the large-scale war modes?▾
Havoc Warfare is far more CPU-demanding than the campaign or extraction mode, due to the number of players, vehicles, and simultaneous network calculations.
Can I play Delta Force on a modest rig?▾
Yes, the game is designed to scale from mobile devices to high-end PCs, so on modest rigs with low settings a playable framerate can still be maintained.
