1. Quick wins (no visual loss)
Start here. Each one adds a little, but together they give +33% free FPS.
Render Resolution
The render resolution slider is the most direct control over GPU cost. Dropping it a few points below 100% costs little perceived sharpness but frees up FPS almost linearly, more predictable than tweaking individual settings.
Shadow Quality
High-resolution dynamic shadows are among the IW engine's most expensive settings in maps with heavy vegetation or complex structures. Lowering them barely affects environment readability in fast combat.
Volumetric Quality (Lighting/Fog)
Volumetric lighting and dynamic fog add extra render passes, especially in outdoor scenarios. Disabling it also improves visibility in areas with grenade smoke.
Screen Space Reflections

Here's where most of the FPS is. Minor visual impact, major performance impact.
Texture Resolution
On GPUs with 8GB of VRAM or less, dropping from High to Normal noticeably reduces texture streaming and avoids paging hitches on large maps. On cards with 12GB+ you can keep it on High with no penalty.
Shader Quality
Controls the complexity of material shaders and surface effects. It's one of the settings with the biggest measured FPS impact on the IW engine, more than the name suggests.
Detail/LOD Quality
Determines how far models and terrain detail load at full resolution. Dropping it to Medium keeps distant targets readable without paying the full cost of rendering unnecessary detail.
Ambient Occlusion
Generates contact shading in corners and gaps. Its cost isn't huge but adds up alongside other post-processing effects, and its visual impact in combat is minimal.
Particle Quality
Explosions, smoke, and gunfire effects generate GPU load proportional to the number of simultaneous particles, especially notable in Zombies with large hordes on screen.

The biggest gain in the game. Compatible with almost any modern GPU.

NVIDIA Reflex

NVIDIA
- •Use the most recent Game Ready driver tied to the current season launch; Black Ops 6 gets frequent content patches that sometimes need an updated driver to avoid shader stutter.
- •Enable Reflex + Boost from within the game rather than only forcing it from the NVIDIA panel, since the game's native implementation usually offers better syncing.
- •On RTX 40 series, DLSS 3 Frame Generation isn't recommended in competitive multiplayer due to added latency; save it for campaign or Zombies if you want visual smoothness over reactivity.
AMD
