1. Quick wins (no visual loss)

Dynamic Terrain Resolution
Controls the level of detail of terrain deformation caused by explosions and vehicles. On large maps like Kaleidoscope or Manifest, lowering this setting noticeably reduces CPU load without it being much noticeable in mid-range combat.
Vegetation Quality
Frostbite's vegetation has its own physics that react to wind and explosions. Lowering it from Ultra to Medium removes CPU overhead without losing relevant tactical visual coverage.
Shadow Quality
Dynamic shadows from vegetation, vehicles, and destroyed structures are among the heaviest tasks for the GPU in Frostbite. Medium keeps character shadows sharp while reducing cost in scenes with heavy destruction.
Post-Processing
Motion blur, depth of field, and chromatic aberration consume GPU resources without providing competitive advantage. Lowering it to Medium or disabling motion blur separately improves combat clarity.
Screen Space Reflections
With so much water, glass, and metal surfaces on maps like Discarded or Orbital, high SSR carries a considerable GPU cost during storms and weather events.
2. Medium impact settings
Here's where most of the FPS is. Minor visual impact, major performance impact.
Texture Quality
Unlike other settings, textures depend more on VRAM than raw performance. With 8GB+ of VRAM you can keep it on High with no relevant penalty; on cards with less memory, lowering to Medium avoids micro-stutters from texture streaming.
Ambient Occlusion
AO in interiors and destroyed urban zones of Frostbite is costly because it's constantly recalculated with changing geometry. Medium preserves the sense of depth without Ultra's cost.
Particle Effects Quality
Dynamic weather events (tornadoes with dragged debris particles and sandstorms) depend directly on this setting. It's one of the biggest causes of FPS drops during these events, along with massive vehicle explosions.
Vegetation and Object Detail Distance
Controls the LOD of destructible objects and debris generated by environmental destruction. In matches with lots of accumulated destruction, reducing it prevents the GPU from processing unnecessary mid-distance geometry.
Terrain Deformation Quality
Tied to building and structure destruction in the Frostbite Engine; on Low it reduces the geometric complexity of resulting debris without eliminating the destruction itself, only its level of detail.
3. Upscaling (DLSS / FSR / XeSS)
The biggest gain in the game. Compatible with almost any modern GPU.
NVIDIA DLSS 2
+35% FPSBattlefield 2042 has included DLSS since launch (it doesn't include Frame Generation or DLSS 3, since the game hasn't received that update). In Quality mode it offers a substantial FPS improvement with minimal sharpness loss, especially useful at 1440p and 4K during tornadoes with lots of particles on screen.
AMD FSR 2.0
+30% FPSFSR 2.0 arrived as a post-launch update and works on any GPU (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel). Its image quality is somewhat inferior to DLSS in scenes with moving vegetation, but it remains the best option for AMD or entry-level GPUs.
Intel XeSS
+28% FPSSupport added in later updates for Arc and also compatible on non-Intel GPUs via the DP4a path. Performance somewhat below DLSS but superior to FSR 1.0 in image stability during fast vehicle movement.
AMD FSR 1.0 (legacy)
